So I don’t know if any of you have noticed, but there are some pretty strange similarities between this American holiday and Ramadan! Which is not to say that Ramadan isn’t miles better than Thanksgiving because the food is way tastier; nothing can beat our basbousa or our food outlets which stay open as late as 3AM! There are many reasons why Ramadan is basically similar to Thanksgiving:
1- Family
This goes without saying; both holidays share in the notion that families come together, sit at the table and eat with each other. There’s a feeling of unity that both Ramadan and Thanksgiving exemplify.2- Thankfulness
While Ramadan is a month of piety, and Thanksgiving is more of a national holiday, on both occasions you’re likely to reflect on all the things you’re grateful for.3- Pre- Feast Panic
For both holidays, you find yourself going to the supermarket for days on end to prepare for the feast ahead and stock up your pantry with supplies.4- Feast
Yes! Food! whether it’s Ramadan or Thanksgiving, they both basically revolve around having a feast and sharing a meal with your loved ones!5- Being Full… Always
Once you’ve indulged in the Thanksgiving feast or chowed down on iftar, you’re probably lying there with your belly full of amazing food!6- T.V. Ads
With so many people glued to their T.V.’s during both holidays, we see an increase in inventive ad campaigns. But here we just happen to have extremely loooooong commercial breaks.7- Sports and Stuff!
Watching American football is a staple in every household on Thanksgiving day. As for Ramadan, well this season, we have the Euro 2016! So it’s safe to say that sports is an important factor of these celebrations!8- Decorations
Like any other holiday, Ramadan and Thanksgiving have particular decorations for the festivities.9- Gym Memberships… Probably
Because both these holidays very much rely on food, by the end of either, you’ll probably want to join a gym or renew your gym membership to get rid of all that Ramadan/Thanksgiving fat!Well there it is folks! Here are all the similarities laid out before you, but the verdict still stands that Ramadan is way cooler!
